THEOLOGY OF THE BODY (ToB)
The Theology of the Body program is a teaching that was written by Saint John Paul II. It teaches about the essence of human love: that we are a body and soul together, and what we do with our body affects our soul. It educates students to have a healthy appreciation of who God created them to be, and the call to live lives of love and chastity.
This teaching specifically focuses on who we are as a body and soul, created by God. It explores how we are to treat ourselves and others with the dignity we deserve, without settling for less and harming our mind, soul, and body.
The Theology of the Body for Middle Schooler’s program that we use gives our students answers to their tough questions concerning their bodies, their sexuality, and their future. It approaches the topic from an age-appropriate perspective and lays the foundation for a deeper understanding of God’s plan for each one of us.
We cover this content through 2-3 Edge nights, as well as a one-day 4-hour Saturday session to delve into some of the deeper content.
The required dates for Refuel students for Theology of the body this year are:
March 11th, 2024: Edge Night
March 16th, 2024: Saturday Workshop – 9am to 2pm
March 18th, 2024: Edge Night
This curriculum consists of eight different chapters and is required by the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. ToB is initially introduced in 6th grade religious education. It is then presented to 7th grade students in its fullness. However, if an 8th grader did not attend ToB as a 7th grader they MUST attend before they can be considered for Confirmation.
