RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR 7th & 8th GRADE STUDENTS
Religious education (REfuel) is Confirmation preparation for 7th and 8th grade students who are not enrolled in a Catholic school. This includes non-Catholic private schools, public schools and dedicated homeschool families.
The goal of REfuel is to reach the heads and hearts of our young people through solid theological catechesis (the head) and sincere encounters with Jesus through prayer and community (the heart).
REfuel incorporates a variety of events. These components are Edge Nights, Night of Light, and Theology of the Body.
Homeschool: Alive in Christ is a seperate option for those families who teach their children a regular homeschool curriclum. Homeschool families are invited to share in community building events throughout the two Confirmation preparation years.

Edge Nights

Edge is a requirement for all REfuel students. These nights will bring your child into community with other youth their age. Each night consists of games, fun, relatable talks, small group discussions, and inspiring opportunities for prayer.
Each Edge night is comprised of four main components: Gather, Proclaim, Break, and Send. We begin with snacks and then fun games/activities meant to engage. Hear an inspiring teaching and witness by the Core Team. Small group discussion with one's regular small group and then prayer that leads to a real encounter with our living God.
You will see Edge on the calendar as: Edge/REfuel. It is posted that way because REfuel students are required to attend the Edge nights.

NoL is a key part of our religious education/Confirmation preparation. Both parent and student are required to attend these nights.
Night of Light is an important part of our Religious Education (REfuel) program. We meet once a month with our students and their parents. It is an important time in which we come together with our community of families, learn about our faith in a systematic and inspiring way from knowledgeable speakers, and grow in prayer and love for Jesus and His Church. Special guest speakers will be available for both 7th and 8th grade.
NoL meetings are generally scheduled for the first Monday of each month. Both 7th and 8th grade families meet on the same night. You will see it posted on the calendar as REfuel NoL.

ToB is a part of our REfuel program which educates students to have a healthy appreciation of who God created them to be, and the call to live lives of love and chastity.
This curriculum consists of eight different chapters and is required by the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. ToB is initially introduced in 6th grade religious education. It is then presented to 7th grade students in its fullness. However, if an 8th grader did not attend ToB as a 7th grader they MUST attend before they can be considered for Confirmation.
The ToB chapters are split into separate meetings. Most of the curriculum will be covered during REfuel nights. One Saturday review will be required. Keep an eye on the calendar for those dates.
REfuel Attendance Policy
We understand that conflicts may arise; however, attendance is an important requirement. Your child is allowed to miss the following amounts of meetings.
After they have missed that many, you will be sent make-up homework for them to complete. If your child misses more than 5 Nights of Light and Edge Nights a semester, contact will be made to check-in and see how we can assist you on this journey. We want to do all we can to help your child be prepared for the gift of Confirmation they will be given!
If your child will be missing at any time, please inform us at middleschoolministry@saintv.org.
One of us will contact you if any make-up work to complete.
