Bridging the Divide: Seminarian Talk Series with Dinner Do you have friends and family who aren’t Catholic, but still love the Lord? As a convert, I frequently find myself in dialogue with friends and family who don’t understand my relation with the Lord as a Catholic. We’re all familiar with the accusations of “Mary worship and praying to statues” and no doubt you’ve found yourself feeling like you’re either talking in circles or to a brick wall when trying to explain yourself. Or perhaps you feel like you have all the answers they need to become Catholic, yet they just can’t seem to get it! Well you’re not alone, and I welcome you all to join me as I share about how my understanding of Protestantism impacts my conversations with friends, family, and even strangers. If our ultimate goal is to bring people into a deeper relationship with Christ through the sacraments, we must first desire to love our brethren enough to engage with them in a way that bridges the gaps of our differing cultures and theology. Join me as I present a two-week series that aims to help us towards fruitful conversation. The first night I will be discussing Protestant perspectives on worship, scripture, and denomination for the sake of understanding. The second will then be using that understanding to develop a rhetoric which will aids us in the difficult conversations such as the Papacy, Mary, and other common stumbling blocks for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Lastly, no gathering is complete without food! Join us Tuesdays, July 20 and July 27, for Tailgate Tuesday and Taco Taco Tuesday. The Knights will provide the main dish, and then we ask that you might consider contributing a side, dessert, or beverages for the evening. These talks will be taking place in the Life Center. Doors open as early as 5:30 pm, food will be served at 6:30 pm, and the talk begins at 7:00 pm. I greatly look forward to seeing you there! - Seminarian Stephen Horton
