Nights for Family Community
Night of Light is an important part of our Religious Education (REfuel) program. We meet once a month with our students and their parents. It is an important time in which we come together with our community of families, learn about our faith in a systematic and inspiring way from knowledgeable speakers, and grow in prayer and love for Jesus and His Church.
These parent/student nights focus on particuluar topics. Throughout 7th and 8th grade, students journey through three major questions:
These nights provide the opportunity to hear a variety of speakers well-versed in each particular topic as wll as an opportunity for good conversation starters for parents and students.
NoL is just one component of REfuel. Visit the other pages to learn more.
“Foundation”
Summary: Lindsay Lushis helped to lead us through our first Night of Light on the topic of the Church and Sacraments! She taught us what a Sacrament is, and why the Church, with her Sacraments, is needed for our salvation. For our prayer experience of the night, we did a meditation on the story of Pentecost.

“Called”
Summary: This month, our focus was on discipleship and the call to prayer. Jesus wants to be in a relationship with us! One of the best things we can do to prepare for Confirmation is to grow as a disciple which means growing closer to Jesus in prayer. We welcomed Sister Benedicta from the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration as our guest speaker. She did an amazing job talking with us about how to hear the voice of God in prayer. We ended the night with 5 new prayer experiences to help you with new ways of praying.

“Enter & Signature"
Summary: We welcomed Michael Dopp, one of the pastoral associates at St. Vincent, as our guest speaker for the evening. He did a great job helping us to understand two of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism and Confirmation. He taught us about the purpose and power of our Baptism in restoring our friendship with God, and taught us how Confirmation then "seals" us as God's children. He helped us to know how much God already loves and knows us, and desires to be with us in these sacraments for our great happiness. We are just asked to be open and to, like an acorn seed, nourish our faith so it can grow into something amazing.

“Power”
Welcome to a new year! We are just a few months away from your Confirmation! Tonight, we learned more about who the Holy Spirit is and especially about the gifts and fruits that inviting the Holy Spirit into our lives brings. We thank Ms. Abby Lyon for being our speaker and helping us grow in relationship with the Holy Spirit.

“Pathway”
This month, we welcomed Ms. Jessica Hayes to help us reflect on the Church's moral teaching. We learned about terms like objective truth and relativism. We also saw how through natural moral law, all of us are capable of knowing truth. We were reminded that the Church's teaching on morality comes from our belief in the absolute dignity and value of human life.

After they have missed that many, you will be sent make-up homework for them to complete. It is highly recommended that you make attendance a priority for your child's religious education.
If your child will be missing at any time, please inform us at [email protected].
One of us will contact you if any make-up work to complete.
